Letters, colour and street art
Graffiti workshop
Turn a word, name or shape into your own bold graffiti artwork. Explore letterforms, colour, lines and layers, and find your personal style.
How do we approach this workshop?
Everyone chooses a word or symbol and experiments with outlines, shapes and colour on paper. Then we build the design in layers on canvas or a suitable panel.
Explore the creative process, step by step
From first idea to finished artwork
- Choose your word and style
We look at examples of lettering and street art, then choose a name, word or symbol that we want to paint.
- Sketch and explore colours
On paper we draw outlines, shadows, highlights and shapes. We create a simple colour plan so everyone knows where to start.
- Paint in layers
On suitable panels or canvases we first make the larger colour areas, then build up the letters and their outlines using the agreed materials and techniques.
- Add accents and present
We sharpen contrasts, add details and signatures, and present the artworks together as a colourful series.
What happens during the creative process?
A shared theme can produce very different pieces. Participants exchange ideas about colour, clarity and style, and discover how distinct approaches can form one lively collection.
What do you take away?
Your own graffiti artwork, or a shared arrangement of graffiti panels made by the group.
